Ocean Harvest Is a system of buoys that is used to separate plastic from the ocean by means of electro-static filtration. The buoy charges a set of filters that attract the polymers by producing low level electric currents in the water. After the buoy is full it produces a radio signal with its coordinates, signaling it requires emptying. The buoy contains on-board kinetic generators which translate the natural bobbing motion of the buoy into energy for all on-board electrical components. The buoy keeps a steady position in the gyre by way of GPS and motor (Dynamic Positioning). This project was featured in Metropolis Magazine 2010.
Over the last several decades, the United States has spent billions of dollars on food imports. The U.S. Import of vegetables grew from 3.4 billion in 1997 to 6.9 Billion in 2007. In 2010, vegetable imports from countries like China, India, Chile Costa Rica, Mexico, and Brazil amounted to 8 billion dollars. This creates a foreseeable problem when factoring in the steady increase in transportation costs. Agrus is an agricultural initiative to bring back American Industry, create American jobs, and lower our dependance on unnecessary imports. By utilizing unused shipping containers and retrofitting them with an aeroponic system, a farm can be created in any environment. Because the system is modular, it can be used in many different orientations. The containers can be preloaded and shipped to create a sustainable agricultural infrastructure. In this way, Agrus can be used to provide humanitarian aid to areas affected natural disasters.
Tribine Wind Wall
Current wind generation technology is expensive and not easily adaptable to suit different environments. The Tri-Bine Concept is a modular wind generation device that creates power through a kinetic to potential generation system. Tri-Bine consisits of three flaps which contain piezoelectric generators. As the flaps move, energy is generated and passed to a ground line via the frame. Each Tri-Bine unit can be linked together to create large amounts of energy, or to create a structure. The units are linked together by a small conductive bracket that allows energy to travel through each device.
Boston Indoor Market
Branding for a confidential client. The name has been changed to avoid disclosure infringement.
The brand was built around the idea of construction/ deconstruction. Produce is a raw component of a meal, and the brand was meant to feel raw and non-intrusive. The brand is intended to entice the consumer into getting their hands dirty and create something.
5/2: Five boroughs, two ways to connect
The 5/2 is a solar powered public charging station and pay phone. As we progress into a wireless age, more people are dependent upon their mobile devices for information. The 5/2 provides cellphone and pay phone users with dependable means of communication. It also advocates local businesses through advertising space and discounts for those who use the charging station.
he 5/2 was selected as a Semi Finalist in New York City's Reinvent Pay Phone competition.
Clover environmental design
I was contracted as a designer for clover. I designed packaging for their Whole Foods launch as well as packaging for their in-house food retail. I worked with farmers and customers to create a friendly and tangible brand.
KOMBINE was an urban farming system for use in urban environments. this project was proposed to BOLT, a product start up company here in Boston.
INF Modular Space structure
This project is a fictional project regarding modular space habitat. The Crux Module is an inflatable, modular space habitat that can simulate artificial gravity on its own, and whilst connected in a series.
