More than three quarters of India is rural and without dependable power. Working with an NGO in India, students from MIT and RISD came together to design a light that could be manufactured locally and utilize renewable energy.
The first concept, titled the Enlight, is designed as a rugged and durable light that can be worn, held, or hung. The second concept, named HexLight, is a much simpler light that is shipped within a charging station. The charging station can be transported by donkey to any location, and uses solar power to charge the lanterns.
